Congratulations on your marriage! We're here to help you take care of some important tasks related to your benefits at Microsoft. Follow these steps to update your personal information and benefits coverage.
If you've changed your name, address, or marital status after your marriage, you'll need to update this information in Microsoft systems. Here's how:
Update your personal information: Go to Employee Central to update your name, address, and marital status in our system.
Social Security Administration: Be sure to change your name with the Social Security Administration by completing the application for a new Social Security Card, Form SS-5.
Microsoft will notify your health care plan and Fidelity of your name and address change. You will receive an updated ID card from the health care company reflecting your new name approximately two weeks after they have received this notification.
Marriage is a qualifying status change, allowing you to make changes to your benefit elections outside the annual Open Enrollment period. Remember, you have 90 days to make any benefit changes. Here are the changes you can make:
Add medical coverage for yourself, your spouse, and any dependent children.
Add dependent life insurance coverage.
Change the level of accidental death and dismemberment (AD&D) insurance coverage.
Enroll, change, or begin participation in the Health Care and Dependent Care Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA).
Request a Health Savings Account (HSA) card for your new spouse (if you have an HSA). To do so, go to Manage my Account and select My Payment Card.
If both you and your spouse are Microsoft employees:
You can enroll as the primary subscriber or as the dependent spouse, but not both.
You also have the option to change your medical plan.
Both you and your new spouse can each contribute the annual maximum to the Health Care Flexible Spending Account (FSA), but your combined Dependent Care FSA contribution cannot exceed the IRS maximum of $5,000.
If your spouse is not a Microsoft employee and is eligible for health care coverage through their employer, you must choose one of the following options:
Have your spouse enroll in their employer's health care coverage and use the Microsoft coverage as secondary at no charge.
Have your spouse waive the health care coverage available through their employer. You will be required to pay $75 per pay period to keep the Microsoft health care coverage as primary for your spouse.
Take advantage of the tax savings by enrolling in one or both of the Flexible Spending Accounts.
To make these benefits changes, or to update your name or residential address, visit Enroll/Change Benefits.
Following your marriage, you may want to change your beneficiary designations on your investment, insurance, and health savings accounts. Changes take effect immediately. Consider the following:
To update the beneficiary information for your Employee Life and Accidental Death & Dismemberment (AD&D) insurance, go to the Benefits Enrollment tool.
To change the beneficiary designation for your 401(k) Plan, visit Fidelity NetBenefits.
To designate or change a beneficiary for your Health Savings Account (HSA), go to Manage my Account.
You may want to adjust your Federal and State tax withholdings after you are married. To update your tax withholding, go to W-4
