Financially protecting myself and my family

We can’t plan for the unexpected, but we can prepare for it. Take advantage of Microsoft resources to help you plan for emergencies, so that you’re financially ready for whatever life throws at you.

The loss of a loved one should never mean financial instability; employee and dependent life insurance help provide financial security in the event of your death or a death in your family. Microsoft pays for employee life insurance up to three times your annual base pay.

Provided by Prudential, there are three options for coverage:

  • Employee life insurance from one to 10 times your annual base pay, up to a maximum of $4,000,000 (whichever is less).

  • Spouse/domestic partner life insurance from $5,000 to $750,000 (not to exceed 50 percent of the coverage of your employee life insurance election).

  • Dependent child life insurance at $5,000, $10,000, or $15,000 (for each child under age 26).

Take advantage of the Prudential Needs Estimator to determine the best strategy for you and your family.

Accidental Death and Dismemberment (AD&D) is optional coverage available to you to protect yourself and your family against the unexpected. Provided by Prudential, Microsoft AD&D covers you 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, anywhere in the world. This extra protection allows you to live your best life knowing that if the worst happens, you and your family will be protected.

You choose the amount of coverage you want, and that determines both the cost and the amount of coverage that’s available to your dependents.

Long term disability

Long-Term Disability allows you to take an extended time off with monthly pay, provided you meet certain eligibility requirements. There are multiple levels of coverage for you to choose from, and the level you select will determine your monthly payments should you need to use the policy. The cost is paid for by Microsoft and is considered taxable income unless you’re receiving Long Term Disability payments.
