Dental

Regular dental care helps prevent oral diseases and enhances your overall health and confidence. Microsoft provides industry-leading dental coverage for you and your eligible dependents with no per-paycheck premiums to support your dental wellbeing.

You’re eligible to participate in the dental plan if you’re a benefit-eligible employee on the Microsoft US payroll. You are eligible for benefits if you are a full- or part-time Microsoft retail stores employee on the Microsoft U.S. payroll, regularly scheduled to work 20 or more hours per week. Your coverage begins after you complete an eligibility waiting period of 30 calendar days.

Interns and visiting researchers are not eligible for dental insurance.

Eligible dependents

When you sign up for dental coverage, you can also enroll eligible dependents including your:

  • Legally married spouse or domestic partner (same or opposite sex)

  • Dependent children under age 26

  • Incapacitated children age 26 and older

No duplicate coverage

If both you and your spouse or domestic partner are employed by Microsoft and are eligible for benefit coverage, you are only allowed to be covered under one plan. You can either enroll as a dependent under your spouse or eligible domestic partner's plan or enroll in your own separate coverage, but not both. Your eligible children must be enrolled under only one employee's coverage.

Important Note: If you have other coverage, learn how Coordination of Benefits (COB) applies to you and your enrolled dependents. applies to you and your enrolled dependents.

Retail employees can choose from two dental plans: Dental Basic and Dental Plus. Microsoft pays the full amount for Dental Basic coverage for retail employees and their enrolled dependents. Retail employees can elect to buy-up to participate in Dental Plus.

Corporate employees are not eligible for Dental Basic. Microsoft pays the full amount for Dental Plus for corporate employees and their enrolled dependents.

Get Started

You can only enroll in or make changes to your dental insurance election as a new hire, during the annual open enrollment period, or if you have a qualifying status change (like a marriage, divorce, or the birth of a child). To learn more, go to Qualified Status Change.

Both plans provide full coverage of preventive care from in-network dentists. Preventive care does not count toward the annual maximum, which means you don’t need to skimp on your cleanings even if you need other dental work done.

For other services, such as basic care, major care, or orthodontia, you pay a percentage of the cost (coinsurance) after your annual deductible and are responsible for dental expenses over the maximum amount. If you anticipate a major dental service, ask your dentist to request an estimate of your coverage from Premera Blue Cross.

Quick tip! You can pay for out-of-pocket dental expenses using your Flexible Spending Account (FSA)

For a detailed list of what’s covered, as well as exclusions and limitations, refer to the Summary Plan Description.

You have the flexibility to see whichever dentist you like, but in-network dental providers have agreed to accept set network fees, which typically translate to lower out-of-pocket costs for you. If you choose to see a provider outside of the network, the dental plan will only pay up to the ‘allowable charge’ for each covered service. You’re responsible to pay anything above the allowable charge.

To find in network providers in your area, use the  Premera Blue Cross Provider Directory or call Premera Blue Cross at (800) 676-1411.
