You and your spouse/domestic partner are eligible for on-site mammography screenings if you are enrolled in a Microsoft health plan, are age 40 and older, and haven't had a mammogram in the past 12 months. People ages 35 to 39 who want to have a mammogram through this program must bring written permission from their physician. People ages 35–39 who are at high risk do not need a referral. People under 35 years of age, people who are pregnant or breastfeeding, and people with a history of breast cancer are not eligible to participate. Dependent children, interns, agency temporaries/external staff, and international-based employees are not eligible to participate. We encourage you to contact your location in advance to confirm eligibility.
Our mammography screening program offers on-site mammograms, at select locations, to you and your spouse/domestic partner if you are age 40 or older, enrolled in a Microsoft health plan (eligibility varies on location), and haven't had a mammogram in the past 12 months. The costs of the screenings are covered by Microsoft and are held on our larger campuses. If an on-site mammogram is not offered in your location, you can talk with your primary care provider about where to get one.
The on-site mammography screening provides a multiple-view screening exam. At the discretion of the technologist performing the mammogram, additional views may be necessary to clarify imaging issues for the radiologist. An on-site mammogram is not recommended if you have implants, a breast problem, are pregnant, or are breastfeeding. Instead, your exam should be done at a breast center or other health care facility to best evaluate the implant integrity. As this is a screening exam, vendors are not able to provide imaging for a breast problem such as a lump.
Note: Try to schedule your screening mammogram before your next COVID-19 vaccine dose or at least 4 weeks after your booster vaccine dose. This reduces the chance that swollen lymph nodes from the vaccine will appear on your mammogram.
On-site mammography screenings are usually available each fall. If on-site appointments in your area have already occurred for this year, ask your primary care provider about the best location for scheduling a preventive mammogram appointment (it’s free through your Microsoft health care plan).
For employees in Washington, mammograms are provided by Swedish Medical Center, a Providence affiliate. The mammography technologists are registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology, have advanced credentials in mammography, and are certified by the State of Washington. The interpreting physicians are employed by Radia, are board certified by the American College of Radiology, and specialize in breast imaging.
For locations outside of Washington, Microsoft partners with local vendors who specialize in on-site mammography and have the appropriate equipment and licensure.
Under normal circumstances (when previous films are available), the films are interpreted by radiologists within a few days after a screening. Results letters are then sent to you and your primary healthcare provider within two weeks of the mammogram. If the radiologist finds a problem that requires immediate attention, the provider will contact you to schedule a follow-up appointment.
If you have questions about mammogram screenings, talk with your primary care provider. For information about a previous screening, contact the on-site mobile mammogram vendor directly. For more efficient assistance, make sure to identify yourself as a participant in the Microsoft on-site mammography screening.
