Rolling other retirement savings into the Microsoft 401(k) Plan

If you have a balance in a former employer's retirement plan or an eligible IRA, consider consolidating your assets in the Microsoft 401(k) Plan. This can simplify performance tracking, provide greater convenience in making investment changes, and minimize paperwork.

Completing a rollover may take a few weeks. Fidelity NetBenefits can help walk you through the process. Here's an overview of what to expect.

  1. Provide former plan details. To make sure your money can be moved to the Microsoft 401(k) Plan, you may have to call the company that manages your old plan. (About 20 minutes). If your previous plan is managed by Fidelity Investments, call 888-810-6738 so a representative can help you with your rollover.

  2. Request a check. The company that manages your old plan will mail you the check. (Depending on their process, it may take 2-4 weeks)

  3. Provide contribution information. After you get the check, Fidelity will need to know the amount and contribution types. This may require another call to the company that manages your old plan. (About 20 minutes)

  4. Send your documents. You can send them with the NetBenefits app (1-2 business days to process). Or mail them (1-2 weeks to process).

If you prefer to complete your rollover by mail, use the 401(k) Rollover Form which provides detailed instructions on all the information required.
