Vacation/Discretionary Time Off (DTO)

At Microsoft, we believe in providing employees with the time off they need to rest and recharge. Our vacation policies are designed to offer flexibility and support for a healthy work-life balance.

U.S. benefits-eligible salaried/exempt employees at Microsoft can utilize Discretionary Time Off (DTO) to take time off when they need it. With DTO, employees don't accrue vacation time; rather, employees may take DTO throughout the year to best meet their work/life needs. Eligible employees don't formally record vacation time.

U.S. benefits-eligible hourly/non-exempt employees accrue vacation based on years of service and other specific criteria.

Corporate full-time hourly/non-exempt employees can accrue between 15 and 25 days of vacation per year depending on their years of service. They are also eligible for 2 floating holidays per year.

Retail full-time hourly/non-exempt employees can accrue between 10 and 20 days of vacation per year depending on their years of service. They are also eligible for 4 floating holidays per year.

Part-time employees may be eligible for pro-rated vacation and floating holidays based on their schedule.

U.S. interns and visiting researchers are not eligible for paid vacation but are entitled to company holidays and paid sick leave.
