Other childcare providers who aren’t currently participating may be eligible to partner with Microsoft through the subsidy program or the PRIME Program.

To be considered for the Microsoft subsidy, providers must meet the following requirements:

• Reach a large percentage of the Microsoft population as national providers.

• Offer a childcare discount to Microsoft employees (such as a 10% discount for children aged two and older) through the PRIME program; or a waiver of registration fees and priority access. 

• Supply Microsoft with tax compliance data as required (the subsidy is considered imputed income and must be taxed according to federal law).

To be considered for the PRIME Program, providers must submit the following information to  Passport Unlimited, the program's administrator:

• Name of the childcare provider

• Contact at the childcare provider center

• Address, phone number, and website

Provider participation is voluntary and cannot be guaranteed. Before becoming a part of the Microsoft childcare subsidy program, a provider must first undergo a review. 

The childcare subsidy you receive is considered taxable income, which means you’ll be taxed on the amount that Microsoft pays on your behalf when you use it. This additional income may change your tax bracket and affect the amount of tax you pay. 

The taxable amount (called earned income) is usually reported on the last paystub of the month after you use the subsidy. For example, if you use the subsidy in September, it will be reported on your last paystub in October. Please consult your personal financial advisor for any tax questions.
